Minutes of the Monthly Board Meeting of July 10, 2002

 

 

The monthly board meeting of Danvers Youth Football, Inc. was held on July 10, 2002 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Danvers, MA.

 

Attendance:          Kevin Connolly, Kevin Doble, Chris Fitzgerald, Gary Jones, Mark Jones, Tom Ladd,

Bob Marraffa, Tom Opie, Stu Orloff, Mike Skiotis, Sam Valenti

 

The meeting was called to order by Sam Valenti, President at 8:27 PM.

 

I.                     Secretary’s Report (Tom Ladd)

·         Approval of 06/12/2002 meeting minutes.  Copies of the minutes were distributed for the review of all members present.  A motion to accept the minutes as written was made by Mike Skiotis, seconded by Chris Fitzgerald, and unanimously PASSED.

 

II.                   Treasurer’s Report (Tom Opie)

·         Sam requested a check for CAYFL insurance.  All recent registration checks were forwarded to Tom.

 

III.                 Registration (Tom Ladd)

·         Tom distributed a summary of the registration numbers to date.  At this time, 131 players and 110 cheerleaders are registered in the program for 2002.  Chris Fitzgerald provided the names of an additional four 8th grade cheerleaders who recently registered.  The deadline for cheerleader registration will be Friday, July 12.  Coaches and board members will be contacting unregistered players whom they expect to sign up.  Tom circulated additional forms to those who needed them.

 

IV.                 Snack Bar (Mike Skiotis)

·         Similar to last season, Mike plans to assign teams to work snack bar shifts.

·         Mike is investigating the option of purchasing our own popcorn machine.

·         He is still working on coordinating schedules and plans with the Touchdown Club to close in the snack bar and will be speaking with Brett Hardin (Overhead Door) to get an estimate.

·         Mike also plans to set aside an area in the snack bar for storage of non-perishable items.  He hopes to obtain an ice machine as well.

·         The concept of selling DYF apparel (sweatshirts, T-shirts, etc.) at the snack bar was discussed.  Kevin Doble volunteered to spearhead apparel sales for the league.

 

V.                   Football (Mike Skiotis)

·         Mike appointed the following coaches for the 2002 season:

 

A     Dave Johnson

AA Ron Hennessey

B     Stu Orloff

BB   Tom Ladd

 

·         Mike indicated that he will appoint the C level coach at a later time.  A subcommittee consisting of Sam Valenti, Bob Marraffa, and Mike was formed to meet and evaluate the three current candidates.

·         There will be a mandatory CAYFL coaches meeting on Wednesday, 8/21 in North Andover.  The Cape Ann roster meeting will take place on Wednesday, 9/4 at the DHS cafeteria.  Mike also plans to hold a coach’s meeting at his home sometime in August.

·         Practices cannot begin until August 15.  Player evaluation nights (if needed) will be scheduled around that time.  Tom Marden will be coordinating equipment distribution in early August.

 

VI.                 New Business

·         Sam indicated that the Bavaro Brothers have set up a scholarship where a DYF player will attend their summer camp each year free of charge.  This year’s recipient is Shawn Lindquist, a five year DYF player entering the 8th grade.  Sam asked Gary Jones to post this information on the web site.

·         Chris Fitzgerald suggested that DYF offer a scholarship to graduating DHS cheerleaders who have served as assistant coaches in our cheering program.

 

A motion to adjourn was made Tom Ladd, seconded by Kevin Doble, and unanimously PASSED at 9:30 PM.
