Danvers
Youth Football, Inc.
A special board meeting of Danvers Youth Football, Inc. was held on July 18, 2001 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Danvers, MA.
Attendance: Anna Bertini, Paul Fitch, Larry Fravel,
Ron Hennessey, Dave Johnson, Tom Ladd, Wendy McDonald, Steve Pasquariello, Dave
Perry, Mike Skiotis, Sam Valenti.
The meeting was called to
order by Dave Perry, President at 8:50 PM.
·
Currently,
33 and 28 players are registered in the 8th and 7th
grades respectively. However, we
anticipate six additional registrants in the 7th grade, bringing
that total to 34.
·
With
67 players in the 7th and 8th grades combined, discussion
centered on whether there should be two or three teams in total. Mike Skiotis presented three possible
options:
1)
One
A team (33 players) and two AA teams (17 players each).
2)
One
A team (33 players) and one AA team (34 players).
3)
One
A team (22-25 players) and two AA teams (combined 7th/8th).
·
A
motion was made by Larry Fravel for Option #2 and was seconded by Steve
Pasquariello. Tom Ladd suggested that
the group first consider the merits of two vs. three teams and, if three were
decided upon, discuss how to implement afterwards. Larry withdrew his motion.
·
After
a lengthy discussion, a roll call vote of the Board Members present was
taken. By a margin of 6-4, it was
decided that there would be three teams.
Thus Option #2 (see above) was eliminated.
·
The
discussion moved on to how best way to arrange the rosters of the three
teams. Dave Perry stated a strong
preference for cutting some kids from the A squad so that they may get more
playing time at the AA level. Anna
Bertini argued that kids would rather practice every day with other 8th
graders than be cut, even though it would mean more playing time at the AA
level.
·
Another
roll call vote of the Board Members present was taken. By a margin of 6-5, it was determined that
Option #3 (see above) would be implemented for the 2001 season.
·
Dave
Perry will draft a letter to all 8th grade parents regarding the A
squad tryouts (August 15, 16).
·
A
two-day evaluation for 7th graders (AA squad) will take place on
August 16, 17.
·
A
one day evaluation for 4th
graders (C squad) will take place on August 20.
·
A
motion to elect Dave Johnson and Larry Fravel as the AA head coaches was
made by Mike Skiotis, seconded by Tom Ladd, and unanimously PASSED.
·
A
motion to elect Ron Hennessey and Tom Ladd as the C head coaches was made
by Mike Skiotis, seconded by Sam Valenti, and unanimously PASSED.
·
Mike
announced that there will be a coach’s meeting on Thursday, 7/26 @ 8:00 PM at
his house (18 Amherst St.).
A
motion to adjourn was made by Wendy McDonald, seconded by Anna Bertini, and
unanimously PASSED at 10:15 PM.
